Afghan Scholars and Public Challenge Taliban’s Claim to ‘Islamic Rule’
——————————–
Former Afghan Deputy Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs, Usman Tariq, publicly challenged the legitimacy and adherence to Islamic principles of the Taliban government.

Speaking on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, Tariq declared the Taliban’s system non-legitimate and asserted that their policies are not based on Islam, according to Shia Waves Agency. Tariq specifically criticized the Taliban’s new “Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice” law, emphasizing that it violates the tenets of the Quran, Sunnah (Prophet’s tradition), and Hanafi jurisprudence—the school of law historically dominant in Afghanistan. Tariq’s statements resonated widely on social media, where many users view the Taliban’s governance as a tool for group interests rather than genuine compliance with Sharia law.
