Nine people lost their lives and seven others were injured in a traffic accident on Wednesday in northern Afghanistan’s Baghlan Province, according to a report by Amu TV. The incident occurred along the Palfi Pass, a hazardous mountain road connecting Pul-e-Khumri, the provincial capital, to several surrounding districts.

Local Taliban police stated that a passenger bus veered off the roadway and plunged into a ravine. Among the fatalities were two women, while four children were reported to be among the injured. Afghanistan has seen a rise in traffic-related deaths in recent months. In the past three days alone, 13 people were killed in separate road accidents in Badakhshan and Nangarhar Provinces.

Authorities attribute the growing number of crashes to poor road infrastructure and reckless driving. The Palfi Pass, where the latest tragedy occurred, is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous routes in the region.
