Pakistan Warns Germany Over Status of 2,400 Afghan Refugees Amid Deportation Concerns
———————————-
According to a report by The Khaama Press, Pakistan has issued a warning to Germany over the status of 2,400 Afghan refugees, raising concerns about potential deportations. The warning comes as Germany’s stricter immigration policies have created uncertainty for these asylum seekers, who were promised resettlement.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Shafqat Ali Khan, stated that if Germany fails to clarify the refugees’ status, they could face deportation under Pakistan’s domestic laws. Pakistan is not a signatory to the 1951 Geneva Convention, and its Foreigners’ Act allows for the detention and deportation of foreign nationals without valid documentation. The precarious situation has already led to over 210 Afghan refugees with German acceptance papers being detained and sent back to Afghanistan.
Human rights organizations are urging both countries to protect these refugees and prevent further forced deportations, which they fear could worsen the humanitarian crisis in the region.
