Taliban Enforce Burqa Requirement for Women Traveling in Panjshir

The Taliban have barred women in Afghanistan’s Panjshir province from traveling without wearing a full-body burqa, Amu TV reported. Local sources said the restriction applies to both entering and leaving the province, with Taliban morality police setting up multiple checkpoints to monitor compliance.

Even girls under 15 have reportedly been stopped and warned they cannot travel unless wearing a burqa, despite wearing traditional cloaks and face coverings. The measure adds to a series of strict regulations imposed on women since the Taliban regained power nearly four years ago.

In August 2024, the group’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice declared that a woman’s voice is considered “awrah” under their interpretation of Islamic law.
