United Nations: The Afghan war has entered a more lethal and destructive phase

The United Nations Special Envoy to Afghanistan, Deborah Lyons, confirmed that the war in Afghanistan has entered a “new, more lethal and destructive phase.”
Lyons told the Security Council that more than 1,000 civilians were killed last month during the Taliban terrorist attack.
“The party that has a real commitment to a negotiated settlement will not risk many civilian casualties, because it will understand that the process of reconciliation will be more difficult the more blood is shed,” she added.
It is noteworthy that earlier, Taliban fighters took control of the city of Zaranj, the administrative center of Nimroz province in southwestern Afghanistan.
Local sources confirmed that the militants of the movement seized most of the city.
