Afghan women returnees experience rising risks, UN warns
———————————-
A new report from the UN and its partners, including UN Women and CARE International, is warning of the growing risks faced by Afghan women and girls returning from Iran and Pakistan, UN website revealed. The report highlights that since September 2023, over 2.4 million undocumented Afghans have been forced to return. Many of the women and girls are arriving in a country they’ve never lived in, with no home, no income, and limited access to essential services like education and healthcare.

The “Gender Alert” report details urgent needs for these returnees, such as safe shelter, livelihood support, and education for girls. The document also points out the challenges faced by women humanitarian aid workers who are critical to the response but are hindered by foreign aid cuts and movement restrictions. The UN and its partners are calling on the international community to provide more support to protect the rights of Afghan women and girls and to assist the aid workers helping them.
