The United Nations: 60% of the population of Afghanistan is facing a hunger crisis

The UN Special Envoy for Afghanistan has warned that the country is on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe and 60 percent of the population is facing critical levels of hunger.
Deborah Lyons, the UN special envoy to Afghanistan, said the UN estimates that 60 percent of Afghanistan’s 38 million people face critical levels of hunger, which worsens in winter, the Associated Press reported.
“The international community urgently needs to find a way to provide financial support to medical staff in public hospitals, workers in food security programs and finally to teachers so that Afghan girls can enjoy their right to education,” she added.
She called on the international community to find ways to provide financial support to the Afghan people.
