UN Warns of Severe Drought in Afghanistan

UN Warns of Severe Drought in Afghanistan
———————————–
The United Nations has issued a warning that a severe drought is threatening food security and livelihoods across Afghanistan. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that reduced rainfall, dry soil, and higher-than-normal temperatures are the primary causes.
According to a report from Khaama Press, the drought has had a significant impact on rain-fed wheat production and is endangering livestock due to a shortage of fodder. While some rain is in the forecast, experts are concerned that it may not be enough to reverse the effects of the prolonged dry spell.
The drought is affecting multiple provinces, including Badghis, Ghor, Faryab, Sar-e Pol, Samangan, Baghlan, Takhar, Badakhshan, Daikundi, Bamyan, Parwan, and Kabul. Herat province is an exception, having returned to relatively normal conditions.
The UN is urgently calling for international assistance to support farmers, protect livestock, and stabilize vulnerable rural communities.
