Iran, Pakistan deport over 6,000 Afghan families in 10 days
Iran and Pakistan have expelled more than 6,000 Afghan families in the past ten days, according to Taliban-run refugee ministry data. Between May 30 and June 8, 6,325 families were deported—5,507 from Iran and 823 from Pakistan, including forced and “voluntary” returns.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that Iran alone deported 15,675 Afghan families last month. Pakistan has also ramped up removals, detaining Afghan activists and journalists at risk of Taliban retaliation, drawing condemnation from rights groups.
Most returnees entered Afghanistan via border crossings like Torkham, Spin Boldak, and Islam Qala. The mass deportations worsen Afghanistan’s humanitarian crisis, where millions face food shortages and repression under Taliban rule. Despite international criticism, both Iran and Pakistan continue their expulsion campaigns.
