Kabul Residents Face Water Shortages and High Costs
Residents of Kabul are grappling with severe drinking water shortages, enduring long waits and exorbitant prices for limited supplies, Amu TV reported yesterday.
In neighborhoods like Karte Ariana, many rely on mosques as their primary water source, often waiting hours to fill containers. Ziba, a local resident, expressed frustration, stating, “We only find water every ten days, and the crowding makes it worse.” Families report spending around 300 Afghanis weekly on water, exacerbated by economic hardships.
In areas like Char Qala, unreliable tap water forces residents like Mohammad to travel long distances for water, often purchasing it from costly private tankers. Reports indicate families spend between 400 to 500 Afghanis weekly, insufficient to meet their needs. Despite ongoing challenges, experts emphasize the urgent need for a comprehensive water distribution system to alleviate the crisis and improve living conditions in Kabul. The situation, already dire, has deteriorated in recent years without sustainable solutions being implemented.
