G7 Representatives Urge Taliban to Restore Women’s Rights
G7 Special Representatives expressed grave concerns on Friday regarding the Taliban’s recent ban on women and girls attending health institutes in Afghanistan, Khaama Press reported yesterday.
In a joint statement, they warned that this decision could have catastrophic effects on the healthcare system, particularly impacting mothers and newborns.
The representatives highlighted that this ban is part of a broader pattern of over 80 “repressive” and “discriminatory” policies aimed at excluding women and girls from education, the economy, and public life. They called for the immediate reversal of these actions, emphasizing that Afghanistan’s stability requires an inclusive national dialogue and a constitutional framework.
Additionally, they condemned a recent attack on the Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation and raised concerns about ongoing terrorist threats, urging the Taliban to address these issues in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2593.
The G7 representatives noted that several terrorist groups continue to operate within Afghanistan, posing risks to both domestic and regional stability. They stressed the importance of the international community maintaining pressure on the Taliban to uphold human rights and ensure equal access to education and healthcare for women and girls, crucial for sustainable peace and development in the country.
