One-third of Afghan women give birth at home, UNICEF warns

A new report by UNICEF reveals a troubling trend in Afghanistan: one-third of women give birth outside of health facilities, putting both mothers and babies at risk, Khaama Press reported yesterday.

The report highlights the importance of prenatal care, with only a third of women receiving the recommended four visits with a skilled healthcare provider.

UNICEF, along with partner organizations, is working to improve access to healthcare. They’ve supported over 27,000 health workers and ensured reliable electricity and water supplies at 2,500 health facilities. However, ongoing restrictions on women’s education and employment threaten progress in the healthcare sector.
