As the process of intra-Afghan negotiations faces delay, at least 10 Taliban terrorists were killed by Afghanistan’s security forces in southern Kandahar yesterday, reports TOLO news.
The terrorists were killed as they tried to attack the forces, Afghan Ministry of Defense said adding that the clashes took place in Shah Wali Kot district. The “attack was pushed back by the security forces,” an Afghan defense official was quoted as saying by the news website.
The Afghan security forces also destroyed four Taliban motorbikes that they were using. However, the Afghan MoD statement did not provide details about possible security force casualties in the attack.
So far, the Taliban has not commented on the incident. In another massive operation by Afghan security forces, at least 46 terrorists were killed and 37 others were injured during an operation in the northern Faryab province, a spokesman of the Afghan National Army told Sputnik yesterday.
Meanwhile, the stage is all set for Afghan peace talks as the process of prisoner swap with the Taliban has largely been completed by Thursday, reports in foreign media said.
According to Afghan officials, freeing Taliban prisoners was one of the main hurdles for direct negotiations to end the country’s long war.
