Crowds of Shia Shabaks, Turkmen and Kurds participated in the mourning processions in the streets to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.
Every year more than 40,000 people gather at the holy sites of Imam Zain al-Abideen and Imam Ali al-Redha, peace be upon them, north of the city of Mosul, and other shrines in Sinjar and Tal Afar, to visit and commemorate Ashura by performing the Husseini rituals.
