Muslims commemorate Day of Mubahala: A day on which Allah’s Word triumphed

Millions of Muslims commemorate the twenty fourth of Dhul-Hijjah, the Incident of Mubahala between the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his pure family, and the Christians of Najran. A day on which Allah’s Word triumphed.

Holy shrines, religious centers, mosques and Husseiniyahs in various parts of the world are witnessing the organization of various religious and cultural events to revive and shed light on this great event.

The followers of the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them) hold special ceremonies and rituals on the twenty-fourth of the sacred month of Dhul-Hijjah, to commemorate the Day of Mubahala, which is the incident that occurred between the Noble Messenger (peace be upon him and his pure family) and the Christians of Najran. The day on which Imam Ali (peace be upon him) gave his ring to a poor man while he was performing prayer.

When the Christians refrained from ‘Mubahala’, the Holy Prophet put before them two alternatives: either to embrace Islam or to be prepared to come to terms. But the Christians would not agree till the matter was finally decided by an offer of treaty from their side. Thus a peace treaty was signed on the terms that the Christians of Najran would thereby be committed to pay the Holy Prophet an annual tribute.

This incident reveals the greatness of the Muhammadan Message, which is manifested in one soul not many souls, and one woman out of many women, and two children not many children. They are chosen and prepared by Allah for the guidance of His nation after His Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure progeny).
