Pakistan began implementing the rulings related to inheritance and divorce according to the Jafari jurisprudence for the first time in its history.
Sayyid Iftikhar Hussain, one of Pakistan’s prominent scholars, said in a statement, “Special rulings on divorce and family inheritance for Shia women will from now on be based on Jafari jurisprudence instead of Hanafi.”
A former member of the Pakistan Islamic Thought Council added that after the long struggle for the rights of Shias, great success has been achieved in legal cases related to the inheritance of widows and divorcees, stressing that from now on, court decisions will be issued based on Jafari jurisprudence.
He stressed, that the right of the Shia sect in the Pakistani constitution with regard to personal rights has been fulfilled in these two issues.
