A source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it summoned the Egyptian ambassador in Baghdad and handed him a protest note over al-Azhar’s remarks against the Popular Mobilization fighters.
The source said that the Foreign Ministry summoned the Egyptian ambassador in Baghdad, Ahmed Darwish, adding that the ministry handed a note to the ambassador in protest against the recent Azhar abusive remarks towards the Shia fighters.
Many religious figures denounced the statement issued on last Wednesday by Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center against Iraq’s volunteer forces who, along the Iraqi army, are fighting IS terrorists.
