Alaa Ahmad Dhiauddin, director of the museum said that the precious piece has been gifted to the museum by one of the lovers of Ahl-ul-Bayt, peace be upon them.
He added that this part of the veil was covering the golden door of Kaaba at the Grand Mosque.
The veil, which is 2m wide and 3m long, has been designed with embroideries of Quranic verses containing gold and silver threads.
Verses from Surah Baqara and Surah An’aam have been selected for the embroidered calligraphic designs on the veil.
Every year, the old Kiswa is removed on the 9th day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, the day pilgrims leave for the plains of Mount Arafat during the Hajj. It is cut into small pieces, and given to certain individuals, visiting foreign Muslim dignitaries and organizations.
