“A bomb from the remnants of the so-called Islamic State exploded today targeting a border guards patrol near al-Waleed border crossing, west of Anbar,” the source told AlSumaria News.
“The blast left one of the personnel killed and four others wounded, in addition to damages caused to the patrol,” the source, who asked to remain anonymous, added.
Security troops have control on the Iraqi borders with Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, however, some of the landmines and explosives planted by IS target security patrols in west of Anbar.
Separately, the Iraqi army’s elite Counter-Terrorism Service has announced extraditing the Islamic State foreign members to Justice Ministry in order to stand trial at Iraqi courts.
“Those who were extradited had committed terrorist crimes in Iraq. Thus, they will be brought to trial in accordance with Iraqi law,” Sabah al-Noaman, spokesperson of the service, told Radio Sawa.
“The detainees include nine women. Some are German and French nationals,” he said, adding that “some men are Europeans.”
Noaman highlighted the efforts made by intelligence authorities to follow IS sleeper cells, indicating, “coordination and exchange of information with foreign intelligence authorities.”
