Routes to Karbala packed with pilgrims ahead of Arbaeen
The annual congregation of Shia Muslims in commemoration of Arbaeen, the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, is reaching its climax, as millions of pilgrims are on the roads lead to the holy city of Karbala.

The routes to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, is located are packed with pilgrims from around the world, and services units to provide all that pilgrims need.
Traditional and non-traditional meals are being served to pilgrims for free in addition to cold and warm drinks all the way heading towards and inside the center of the holy city of Karbala. Husseini procession have also practiced their rituals and toured the holy shrine of Imam Hussein and his brother Abu al-Fadhil al-Abbas, peace be upon him.
Security forces and Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) have been distributed in the roads leading to the holy city of Karbala as part of a plan to secure the holy land during the pilgrimage of Arbaeen.
Last year, around 20 million pilgrims gathered in Karbala on Arbaeen, making the world’s hugest human gathering in modern history.
