Saudi forces have shelled the town of Awamiya in the eastern province of Qatif on Wednesday, the capital of the mainly Shiite Muslim kingdom, and arrested a number of people, including clerics.

“Saudi forces kidnapped a number of citizens and looted valuables after storming a residential building in al-Rif neighborhood,” a local newspaper said in an e-mailed statement.
The Saudi army has imposed a curfew in the town of Tarot and its surroundings where there are hundreds of military vehicles in the area.
