Iraq gets UN Deputy Secretary General position for first time in its history
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Iraq received, for the first time, the position of United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, pointing out that the site represents evidence of Iraq’s restoration of its leading role in international and regional organizations.

Spokesman for the Ministry Ahmed Jamal said that “the United Nations Organization announced, by the official spokesman, the appointment of the Permanent Representative Ambassador Mohammad Ali Al-Hakim, as a deputy and Executive Director of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) based in Beirut, pointing out that this post is the highest international job obtained by an Iraqi figure since the founding of the United Nations.”
The selection of the UN represents another proof of the restoration of Iraq’s leading role in international and regional organizations and an important outcome of the hard work of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
