Twenty-nine Bahrainis handed long prison terms

Bahraini court handed over jail terms to 29 nationals, aging from 16 to 25 years old

A Bahraini court handed over jail terms to 29 nationals, aging from 16 to 25 years old, alleging that they had conspired in a terrorist blast in BaniJamra, a village in the north-west of Bahrain.

The court’s sentences range from 10 to 55 years in prison as well as life imprisonment, according to media report.

The report also said that the nationality of three other citizens convicted in the case was annulled.

The sentences come among an ongoing crackdown on dissent in Bahrain with rights groups repeatedly criticizing the regime for handing down long-term sentences to anti-regime protesters and activists in the country.
