Residents of Amerli, ISIL-besieged Shia town, fighting on their own

Amerli, a town170km north of Baghdad, has been under siege by terrorists of the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) for more than two months.

 

The town is home to members of Iraq’s Shia Turkmen minority, , and who the ISI terrorists consider to be heretics.

Amerli’s 20,000 residents are without electricity and are running out of food and medical supplies.

One resident, said that children ate only one meal every three days.

A UN human rights spokesman said that ISIL had broadcast dozens of videos showing cruel treatment, beheadings and shootings of captured soldiers, police officers and people apparently targeted because of their religion or ethnicity, including mainly Shias and other minorities.
