Family Calls for Hate Crime Probe After Muslim Woman Shot in Maryland
—————————
The family of a Muslim woman who was shot in Capitol Heights, Maryland, is urging police to investigate the incident as a hate crime, IQNA reported. The victim, who was visibly Muslim and wearing a niqab, was shot in her car while running errands. She was struck in the left arm, and her family believes the shooter may have been aiming for her head.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has also called for a hate crime investigation, noting that the unprovoked nature of the attack on a visibly Muslim woman is “particularly concerning.” Zainab Chaudry, CAIR’s Maryland director, stated that the incident has unsettled the wider Muslim community.

While Prince George’s County police have not yet classified the case as a hate crime, CAIR has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. The victim is recovering
