Black banners top domes of Imam Hussein and Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas, peace be upon them to mark mournful month of Muhrram

Yesterday evening, after the Maghrib prayers, ceremonies were held to replace banners of the domes of the shrines of Imam Hussein and his brother Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon them), from red to black, marking the beginning of the sacred month of Muharram (1444 AH) and announcing grief and mourning for the tragedy of the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them.

The beginning of the ceremonies was, as usual, from the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, where the red banner atop the holy dome was replaced with a black, amid a wide participation of the crowds of believers and mourners.

After that, the believers moved towards the shrine of the Banner-Bearer of Imam Hussein, Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him), to begin the ceremony of replacing the banner of the honorable dome of his immaculate shrine, which was erected in the central courtyard of the Qibla Gate.

It is noteworthy that these mourning ceremonies have been held since (2004 AD), through which the beginning of the month of sorrows is announced, so that its launch will be from Holy Karbala, the capital of the Husseini rituals.
