The ceremony of changing the Kaaba’s Kiswa began after the dawn prayer on Saturday, as usual by the General Presidency of the Holy Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque on the day of Arafah each year.
Muslims gathered at the Holy House of God, where the ceremony takes place to replace the old Kiswa, the cloth that covers the Kaaba, with a new one made of pure silk and gold.
The Kiswa is made using 675 kilograms of raw black silk for the outer part, in addition to 100 kilograms of gold-plated silver threads and 120 kilograms of pure silver threads to write the Qur’anic verses inscribed on it.
A new Kiswa is made and replaced every year on the day of Arafah.
