2nd Int’l Conference on Arbaeen Pilgrimage planned in Iraq
The “Karbala” Center for Studies and Research affiliated to the holy shrine of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, announced that the second international conference on Arbaeen pilgrimage will be organized in November.
The “Karbala” Center for Studies and Research affiliated to the holy shrine of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, announced that the second international conference on Arbaeen pilgrimage will be organized in November.
According to the website of the holy shrine, the center has invited scholars, researchers and academic figures to participate in the international event.
Top papers submitted to the conference will be published at “Al-Sbet” Iraqi academic journal.
Abdul Amir Quraishi, director of the center, said that the conference aims to document the pilgrimage and clarify the role and impact of the religious social ritual in the civilization and cultural heritage of Iraq and the world.
Investigation of various aspects and impacts of the pilgrimage on the culture of human societies is also among the objectives of the conference, he said.
He added that the organizers further seek to make the best of the religious event as an opportunity to realize and promote peaceful coexistence, dialogue and religious moderation.
Those willing to participate in the conference can sent their papers by September 1.
Arbaeen marks the 40th day after Ashura, the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his faithful companions in the 680AD Battle of Karbala.
Each year, a huge crowd of Shias march toward Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.
