The Cooling Department of the Engineering Projects Division at the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine has announced the completion and operation of its cooling systems for the Arbaeen pilgrimage season, aiming to reduce the impact of high temperatures and provide more comfortable conditions for pilgrims inside the holy shrine and surrounding areas.

Cooling Department official Safaa Ali Hussein said the implemented plan includes two main components. The first focuses on cooling the internal spaces of the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine through central air-conditioning systems of the Full Fresh type, with a total cooling capacity of 9,650 tons.

The second component targets outdoor areas experiencing high concentrations of pilgrims. More than 4,200 industrial air coolers have been installed and distributed, along with 450 misting fans in courtyards and surrounding roads, in addition to 35 modern fog cannons designed to help reduce temperatures.

Hussein explained that these systems contribute to lowering temperatures in targeted areas by approximately 9 degrees Celsius, creating a more suitable environment for visitors during the Arbaeen rituals.

He added that all cooling equipment and systems used in the project were manufactured by the Al-Warith Engineering Industries Factory, affiliated with the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine, as part of its engineering production and supply initiatives.

The measures are part of the shrine’s comprehensive technical and service plan for the Arbaeen season, as millions of pilgrims continue to arrive in the holy city of Karbala to commemorate the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).
