Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Hussaini al-Shirazi has called on believers to work toward expanding and spreading Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) commemorative gatherings beyond their local communities to cities and countries around the world.

The appeal was made in a brief statement published by the official website of his office, coinciding with the anniversary of the birth of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) and other revered members of the Holy Prophet’s Household (peace be upon them). In the statement, the Senior Religious Authority urged followers not to confine Hussaini gatherings to their own cities, but to plan and make sustained efforts to establish them in other regions and countries in order to keep the message of the Hussaini uprising alive on a global scale.

Grand Ayatollah Shirazi has previously emphasized that religious seasons and sacred occasions represent important spiritual opportunities that should be used effectively.
