Millions of Pilgrims Flock to Samarra to Commemorate Martyrdom of Imam Hasan al-Askari (peace be upon him)

Millions of Shia pilgrims continue to arrive in the holy city of Samarra to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hasan al-Askari (peace be upon him) on 8 Rabi’ al-Awwal at the shrine of the Askariyyin Imams (peace be upon them both) in Salah al-Din province, according to the Shia Waves Persian.
Pilgrims from across Iraq—including Basra, Nasiriyah, Diwaniyah, and Baghdad—are walking on foot to the shrine, with numerous mawakib (pilgrim service tents) along the routes providing food, water, and other services.
Security forces have increased deployment around the city to ensure safety, while the shrine has prepared special commemorative programs, including mourning gatherings and essential services for visitors.
Local authorities in supporting provinces have suspended official working hours in Samarra, Balad, and Dujail to facilitate pilgrim access and participation in the religious ceremonies.
The event highlights Samarra’s ongoing role as a major pilgrimage destination for Shia Muslims in Iraq and abroad.
