WFP: 4 million Afghan mothers and children suffer from malnutrition
The World Food Programme (WFP) announced that more than four million mothers and children in Afghanistan suffer from malnutrition, stressing that international aid provided to prevent and treat malnutrition in this country is used for its intended purpose.
The House Foreign Affairs Committee of the United States had previously issued a statement saying that the lack of food in Afghanistan has forced many mothers to give their children antihistamines to calm them down.
The committee mentioned in a report that more than 12 million people in Afghanistan are currently facing severe famine.
Last week, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Secretary-General of the World Health Organization, announced that the organization needs $185 million to continue providing medicines and supporting health facilities in Afghanistan and prevent the death of children and women due to malnutrition and food insecurity.
