Bangladesh faces worst-ever dengue fever outbreak with 396 deaths in September

Bangladesh has been experiencing its worst-ever outbreak of dengue fever, with the death toll reaching 989, including 639 in Dhaka, and almost 80,000 registered hospitalizations.

The fatalities and hospitalizations are at their highest since the country started recording dengue cases in 2000. In 2022, Bangladesh reported 281 deaths.

WHO experts warned that climate change is contributing to the spread of dengue and other diseases caused by mosquito-borne viruses.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne infectious illness that causes high fever and severe headaches, as well as pain in the joints and muscles.
