Pakistan to deport one million Afghan immigrants

The government of Pakistan has decided to deport about one million Afghan refugees who do not have legal residency documents.

Pakistani media have reported that the caretaker cabinet of this country approved this decision on Tuesday, September 26.

According to a report by a number of Pakistani media, the new decision of the Pakistani government was made due to the tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban group in Afghanistan.

The report says that at least 700,000 Afghan citizens who have been residing in Pakistan for years have not renewed their residence documents.

It further notes that the deportation of these people to Afghanistan will be done in three stages. In the first stage, Afghans staying in Pakistan without proper documents and those who have not renewed their documents and visas will be deported.

According to some reports, more than a thousand Afghan immigrants were deported from Pakistan in the last six days.

Earlier, some international human rights defenders expressed concern about the forced deportation of Afghan refugees by Pakistan and demanded Pakistani authorities to stop it.

It should be mentioned that after the Taliban group came to power in Afghanistan, hundreds of thousands of Afghan citizens were forced to leave their country and sought refuge in Pakistan due to security and poverty reasons.

According to the statistics of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the number of Afghan refugees in Pakistan has increased to 3.7 million by June this year.
