EU member states see 30% increase in asylum requests, says EUAA

The European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) has announced a 30% increase in the registration of asylum requests in EU member states in the first six months of this year.


According to EUAA officials, about 519,000 asylum applications were registered between January and the end of last June in 29 member states of this union.


The agency also estimates that, based on current trends, applications could exceed one million by the end of the year.


According to this report, about 44% of these requests were submitted by Syrian, Afghan, Venezuelan, Turkish and Colombian refugees.
