The International Nonviolence Organization, Free Muslim, issued a statement on International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief.

The organization said in a statement, “On the 22nd of August every year, the international community commemorates the victims of acts of violence based on religion or belief,” calling on the United Nations and human rights organizations around the world to intensify efforts and activate the concluded agreements between the countries that provide assistance to victims of violence on these aforementioned backgrounds.

The organization pointed out that recent years have witnessed an unprecedented escalation of violence against ideological or religious differences, and the rise of the phenomenon of sectarian racism, especially in Middle East countries. These violations were carried out by armed terrorist groups such as Al Qaeda, Taliban and ISIS, or some other fanatic Salafist parties or groups that adopt moral incitement to harm those who contradict them ideologically. Political systems and government agencies have emerged that adopt the targeting of religious, sectarian or ethnic minorities on political backgrounds, which resulted in the execution, imprisonment, disappearance and displacement of hundreds of civilians.

The organization confirmed, “Entire communities have become victims of acts of violence based on sectarian differences, which represents a condemned act that deserves investigation and follow-up by human rights organizations, which were established to combat such violations and crimes around the world.”
