“Beijing Mosques Undergo Sinicization: Islamic Features Altered to Resemble Chinese Temples”
According to a report by Bitter Winter, two prominent mosques in Beijing, the Doudian Mosque and the Songyu Mosque, have been subjected to “Sinicization,” resulting in the removal of their traditional Islamic features.
The Doudian Mosque’s alterations include replacing Arabic-style arcades with square ones, removing moonlit towers, and changing the dome to five Chinese-style white spires. The Songyu Mosque also experienced Sinicization, with its Arab-style minaret, dome, and symbols replaced by Chinese-style elements.
As China’s campaign to Sinicize Islam and to genocide Uyghur Muslims garners global attention, human rights concerns arise amid efforts to suppress related news and publicize the transformations.
