Growing demand for Muslim cemeteries in Ireland

In a recent report by the Irish Examiner Dr. Ali Selim, spokesperson for the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland, has emphasized the need for additional Muslim cemeteries in Ireland.

His call follows the lengthy funeral procession of Dlava Mohamed, 16, who tragically passed away in a car crash. The family had to travel 140km to bury her due to limited Islamic burial sites.

With a growing Muslim population, Selim highlighted the urgency of more cemeteries and better facilities. Lorraine O’Connor, CEO of Muslim Sisters of Ireland, also advocated for educational inclusion of diverse funeral practices in school curriculums.
