One of Pakistan’s most prominent Sunni leaders calls for commemorating Ashura

The President of the Association of Muslim Scholars of Pakistan, Sheikh Hamid ul Haq Haqqani, urged all Muslims to honor the memory of Ashura of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and maintain its peaceful atmosphere throughout the country.

Haqqani stressed, as quoted by the (app) News Agency and translated by Shia Waves Agency, the importance of the commemoration of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, in a speech delivered to a mass gathering of Muslims at the Dar Al-Uloom mosque.

Haqqani said that, “We are inspired by the memory of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) for its profound message in standing up to injustice,” adding that “the great events of Karbala offer invaluable lessons in patience and steadfastness”.

He continued that “religious scholars, leaders and Muslims should mobilize their efforts to revive the painful Ashura, and to hold Husseini processions, while avoiding any acts that may destabilize peace and harmony”.

The “app” Agency stated that “these calls will be influential for all Muslims, especially members of the Sunni community to commemorate Ashura, as this anniversary strengthens unity and mutual understanding between Muslims and emphasizes the eternal principles of Islam for which the Master of Martyrs sacrificed whatever he had.”
