Prophet’s miracle of Splitting the Moon: is it consistent with scientific findings?
The verses of the Qur’an and the traditions of the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them, point to the fact that the Holy Prophet had other miracles in addition to the Qur’an, which were used to guide people to Islam.
One of those miracles is “Shaq al-Qamar”, which means that he pointed to the moon with his finger and then the moon split into two halves.
Do the scientific findings generally deny the occurrence of this event, or is there supporting evidence?
In Surah Qamar, the Holy Quran clearly mentions the divine miracle of splitting the Moon performed by the Holy Prophet, and according to the famous traditions, some of which are quite frequent, on the fourteenth night of the month of Dhu Hijjah, five years before the Hijrah, the Holy Prophet, at the request of the polytheists of Mecca, and with God’s permission, he performed this historical miracle to guide them, so there is no doubt among Muslims about the occurrence of this incident.
In spite of the fact that the infidels of Quraish found the verses of the Qur’an to be words beyond human ability and while acknowledging its eloquence, they interpreted it as magic, but they continued their stubbornness and considered the Holy Prophet as illiterate.
They made such a request, to accuse him of lying and finally find a way to not accept Islam and believe in it.
Even though the disbelievers of Quraysh had promised the Holy Prophet that if he performed this miracle, they would confirm his religion and the truth of his words, they continued their stubbornness.
According to Holy Quran, despite the testimony of witnesses from the surrounding Bedouins, they interpreted this miracle as continuous magic.
But from the scientific point of view, whether such a phenomenon is possible in the celestial spheres, it can be said that there have been splits and explosions in the solar system and other celestial spheres, which means this phenomenon is not unprecedented and it is never scientifically impossible.
Meteors are very small heavenly stones, sometimes not exceeding the size of a hazelnut but sometimes of very large volumes orbiting around the sun at a high speed.
Their path sometimes intersects with the orbit of the earth, and thus are attracted to the earth and split.
A few years ago, during a trip to the Moon, NASA scientists sought to study the internal composition of this celestial sphere.
They found a belt of deformed rocks around the surface of the moon, which had apparently been pulled towards the depth and other side of the planet.
When NASA scientists presented this information to geologists, they said in surprise that such a thing is not possible, unless the moon has been divided into two halves at some stage of its life, then assembled again, and returned to the original shape.
And this strip of deformed rocks is the result of the collision of the two halves of the moon at the moment of joining.
