Anti-Muslim racism, Islamophobia in Austria in 2022

Over 1,324 incidents of anti-Muslim racism and Islamophobia took place in Austria last year, according to the 2022 Report on Anti-Muslim Racism released on Monday.

According to the report the majority of the attacks were carried out on online platforms, and others happened in various areas of social life in Austria, where some 700,000 Muslims live.

More women (40.2%) than men (15.2%) were targets of anti-Muslim racism as well as verbal and physical attacks, the report details.

Some experts say “so-called academic studies” by biased institutions play a key role in the rising trend of anti-Islamic moves.
