UN says humanitarian situation in Yemen is challenging, millions in urgent need of assistance

The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, David Greasley, said that “The situation in Yemen is very critical”, noting that, “there are people who are unable to meet their daily needs after 8 years of war.”

Greasley stressed that nearly 21 million people in Yemen need humanitarian aid, including food. He added that health systems are out of service, especially in remote areas, pointing out that there are millions of displaced people who live in very difficult conditions.

Greasley further elaborated that the situation in Yemen is challenging for organizations that are facing difficulties in securing funding, reaching out to those in need, and the distribution of aids.

The UN official reiterated the need to urgently solve the problems in Yemen, to secure social services and allow people to access health, water, food and all humanitarian services, and to restore economy.
