In an initiative described as historic, New Jersey establishes Muslim heritage month
The Governor of New Jersey, Phil Murphy, signed a bipartisan resolution on Saturday declaring January as Muslim Heritage Month, media outlets reported.
New Jersey is home to more than 300,000 Muslim residents.
This month comes to celebrate the history, accomplishments and culture of the Muslim community in the USA.
Muslim community members in the state of New Jersey described this initiative as a “historic moment,” noting New Jersey is just the fourth state to set aside a month to raise awareness and appreciation for residents of the religion.
Gov. Murphy said, “I am proud to designate January of each year as Muslim Heritage Month as it will shine a light on the rich histories, cultures, and shared principles of Muslim Americans.”
