Tragedy struck in the West African nation of Niger as at least 10 soldiers lost their lives in a brutal ambush near the border with Mali.
The attack, which occurred on Friday evening in Banibangou, also left more than a dozen soldiers injured.
Defence Minister Alkassoum Indattou spoke out about the devastating event, revealing that 16 people are still missing.
However, the minister also shared a glimmer of hope as he noted that air force support was able to drive the attackers across the border into Mali.
