Chinese authorities sentenced the female Muslim preacher, Haseet Ahmed; from the Uyghur Muslim minority, to 14 years in prison.
Haseet’s sentence came based on accusations that she was teaching children the Qur’an and that she had two copies of it.
Uyghurs are barred from freely practicing their religion, speaking their language, and expressing other fundamental elements of their identity.
