The United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Martin Griffiths, called for the safe and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
Griffiths said during a press conference that humanitarian personnel should enjoy “protection” when they deliver aid to the Ukrainian people “in all the Ukrainian regions affected by the conflict.”
The UN official confirmed that the latter estimates that 100,000 people have been displaced so far due to the conflict.
“We expect there will be an additional 1.8 million” in the future, he said, explaining that this figure should not be taken into account for people who will need humanitarian assistance.
At this point, Griffiths explained, all UN teams remain in Ukraine, although non-essential staff and families have been evacuated.
He added that an appeal would be made to raise funds in the coming days from the United Nations in Geneva in order to meet the “needs”.
