16 million Yemenis are heading towards famine
Today, the United Nations Food Agency warned that 16 million people in Yemen are heading towards famine, indicating that food rations for millions will be reduced in October unless new funding arrives.
The head of the United Nations Food Agency, David Beasley, said at a high-level meeting on the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, “The United States, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and other donors stepped in when the World Food Program was running out of money earlier this year and because of that they have we avoided famine and catastrophe.”
He added, “WFP funds are running out again, and without new funding, new cuts will be made in food rations for 3.2 million people in October and 5 million by December.”
