Muslims in the Canadian city of Edmonton welcomed the reform of the local authorities to the regulation criminalizing acts of hate, which provides for a fine of $250 for its perpetrators.
The authorities reformed the city’s internal legal system so that harming others with religious or ethnic motives became a crime punishable by law and charged with a fine.
This was done for the first time in Canada, where the new law stipulates a fine of $250 for the offender and double the fine in the event of a repeat offense.
The Islamic National Council of Canada welcomed this move, after the escalation of the wave of hatred against Muslims there.
