The international newspaper, Daily Muslim, for the Muslim community in Italy stressed that the Islamic calendar includes moments and memories that every Muslim should know.
In a series of articles entitled “The Importance of the Twelve Months in Islam”, the newspaper mentioned that “the first month of the Hijri calendar is the month of Muharram, which is characterized by a series of sad events, the most important of which is the martyrdom of Imam Hussein ibn Ali, peace be upon him, along with his family and companions in the land of Karbala.
The author of the article, Raffaello Villani, stated that “although the month of Muharram falls within the sacred months of Islam, in which all forms of conflicts and wars are prohibited, it witnessed the Battle of Karbala, which resulted in the martyrdom of the grandson of the Prophet, peace be upon him and his progeny, on the tenth day, known as Ashura.”
