Bahraini authorities arrest Shia religious scholar on charges of holding the Eid al-Adha prayer
The Bahraini security authorities summoned a number of Shia religious scholars, accusing them of holding the Eid al-Adha prayer.
The sources indicated that the authorities decided to arrest the cleric, Sayyed Hashem al-Wadaei, in the center of Hamad Town, Roundabout 17, to present him to the Public Prosecution, on charges of holding the Eid prayer at the Imam al-Sadiq Mosque, peace be upon him, in Diraz.
This fierce security campaign against Shia citizens comes amid the Bahraini authorities’ claims of peaceful coexistence and respect for religious freedoms in the country, and granting the freedom to practice religious rites guaranteed constitutionally and legally, according to official statements.
Several international human rights organizations have condemned the Bahraini authorities’ continued restrictions on religious freedoms in the country, by targeting the religious rites of the Shia sect in the country, and launching a security campaign against various Shia figures.
